WW1 British KIA 1918 MC & Bar Recip RAMC Officers Private Purchase 'MUTAX' Clothes Brush. Named To Captain JD Proud MC With December 1917 Postmark On Box . Captain JD Proud RAMC ( 46th Field Ambulance ) was a recipient of the Military Cross & Bar , died 1st August 1918 Age 26 & buried Senlis French National Cemetery. 'Mutax' was Popular during WW1 ( From 1914 until 1927 ) as a British brand of home dry cleaning tools . This is the hollow handled brush which was part wood , part metal wth stiff bristles using a chemical solvent entered into the brush via the top to degrease clothing. Popular with officers by private purchase during WW1 the box which this came in is addressed to 'CAPTAIN JD PROUD 5 OSBOURNE TERRACE, NEWCASTLE, TYNE'. The postmark on the box is dated 29 DEC 1917.
