CSM Williams 203776 , 2/5th Lancashire Fusiliers Death Plaque, Card Envelope & Red Cross Letter KIA Nov 20th 1917. Killed 20th November 1917 on Somme Front at Epehy . Accompanying the plaque is a typed letter from the East Lancashire Branch of the British Red Cross Society addressed to his wife Mrs Williams of 130 Fitzwarren St, Seedley, Manchester. She is informed by the society that following her enquiry they had received a report witnessing the death of CSM Williams from a Pte A Thompson who was serving with him & witnessed his death when struck by an explosive bullet in the forehead just in front of him. The Private goes on to state that they were opposed by the Prussian Guards who took the line from them. Death occurred at around 06.15 on Nov 20th. Buried at Honnechy British Cemetery . Letter dated June 28th 1918.
