Great War British Military Cross Engraved ' Monchy 22/3/18 ' . A full size British Military Cross of the Great War period with ribbon & engraving on reverse reading 'MONCHY 22/3/18'. The significance of the engraving is unknown however Monchy-le-Preux was being held by the British 15th (Scottish) Division at that time until lost to German forces on 23rd March 1918 during the initial phase of the German Spring Offensive. Several officers were awarded the Military Cross in & around Monchy-le Preux at this time .
